Of course Hulk tried his best to put on a good fight against Thanos.
But all he did was just carry Thanos back a bit by surprise. Hulk did land some punches.
But Thanos clearly estimated Hulk and his abilities and was able to overpower him easily.
If you see this whole fighting sequence then it’s pretty obvious of how uncontrolled Hulk’s attacks are. He doesn’t know what he’s up against.
After Abomination, for a very long time Hulk really didn’t have an enemy as strong as Thanos. (Yes, Thor but Thor knows who Hulk is underneath so of course he wouldn’t kill him)
Hulk was easily able to overpower each of his previous enemies through his size, power and rage. He hasn’t been using any of his combat skills.
(Or Marvel has deliberately chosen not to explore Hulk’s fighting skills.)
The Hulk in Avengers: Infinity War seems to be caught somewhere in the middle between Banner and Hulk.
So, the only way he could’ve given a tough fight was Banner losing total control over himself and be the Hulk he was against Abomination.
Or Banner would have to be trained by some fierce warriors, if he were to took control.
Thanos on the other hand knows what or who he’s up against. Yes he was taken by surprise but just after he focuses on his green target, he knows that it’s the big green monster.
If you look at Thanos’ attacks they’re far more balanced and tactfully aimed at Hulk’s critical body points.
Thanos is in the correct fighting stance with his hands close to his body. That way he can both defend and attack.
In the end, Thanos lifts Hulk and throws him. He had his fun but it was very short.
Thanos isn’t afraid to go against anyone. He’s trained his entire life to be a warrior. He has conquered other planets as well. So, he would surely have been against more strong opponents than Hulk.
